Program of Argan Trekking:

Randonnee in the surroundings of Essaouira

8 days and 7 nights (6 by horse)


Day 1: airport/Essaouira: Welcome in the airport of Marrakech/Agadir/Essaouira and transfer to Essaouira. Briefing on the program of the excursion. Dinner and night in the hotel or apartment.

Day 2: Diabat/Ida or Gourd: We go to the mouth of the Qsob wadi (river) for the departure of the excursion, then we head for the dunes of yellow sand - on which push some junipers. We continue by the cultivated fields to the souk of Ida or Gourd. This first day will be the occasion to familiarize you with your horse - with some possibilities of trot and gallop. Bivouac by the foot of a hill.

Day 3: Ida or Gourd/Has Ouadil: At the beginning, we go along a small hill to reach the valley of Has Ameur. The path follows the gorge, dug by the wadi where water allows the presence of olive-trees and bay-trees – from time to time with pink flowers. We pass by vestiges of an irrigation channel, dating from the Portuguese presence and continue to the way towards the valley of Has Ouadil. We dine and spend the night in bivouac.

Day 4: Has Ouadil/Immin' tlit: We cross the area of Has Zelten, one of most beautiful circuits. We will pass near Kasbahs, located in the middle of the forest of argan-trees, before we stop by the foot of the kasbah of Has Zelten. Afterwards we are crossing hills with agriculture and forests - to the souk of Immin' tlit. We visit of a co-operative, producing oil of argane, held by Berber women. Dinner and night in bivouac.

Day 5: Immin' tlit/AïtTizril: We go a little higher – and then go down again towards the valley of Neknafa. The path goes down almost constantly - and crosses very old villages built out of stone, most remarkable Zaouïa Sidi Me hend or Slimane (Koranic school). We pass through new narrow gorges, where you can discover different caves, of which some are inhabited by troglodytes. We stop for bathing at the exit of the gorge and continue towards Dar Caïd, an old place of French origin. Dinner and night in bivouac in the village of Tizril Has.

Day 6: Tizril/Sidi Kaouki Direction: We head for the ocean along a valley with argan-trees and herds of goats. We are riding on paths, bordered of small white stones and low ridges which connect the last villages before reaching the littoral. The day ends in a gallop - in the endless beaches with completely unspoiled nature. Bivouac on the beach.

Day 7: Sidi Kaouki/Essaouira: Last day is dedicated to discover the fantastic littoral landscape, with long beaches, dunes, villages of fishermen and some cliffs to pass by. Many marine birds accompany you, but also herds of cows and dromedaries! We return towards the Qsob wadi, dinner and spend the night in the camp in Essaoira.

Day 8: Essaouira/Marrakech: Transfer to the airport of Marrakech/Essaouira/Agadir and departure.

On the randonnee you ride 5 hour each day. Departure it at 10 o’clock in the morning, you have 1,5 hour to eat and prepare for the ride. In the evening we arrive at the bivouac at 17 o’clock. The bivouac is organized by ours guides.

The guide in the jeep will take care of your luggage. So it is important to bring with you money ad personal papers, tee-shirt with long sleeves, sun lotion, your personal drug.

Price for each person:

700€, all included: Transfer and return from ant to the airport to the starting point of the randonnee, all the meals, lodging in Berber collective tent or individual tent (Canadian), rent of horses, the guide for the randonnè, the equipment for the horses.
